Directions to Technicon:

Travelers from Virginia and North Carolina will approach the area using I-81. Below is how to get to Exit 118 on I-81 from: Virginia, North Carolina, or West Virginia and points west.

From Points in Northern Virginia:
  1. Take I-66 West to I-81 South
Richmond and Hampton Roads areas:
  1. Travel West on I-64; the junction for I-81 is at Exit 88 near Staunton
  2. Take the left exit to head South on I-81
Raleigh-Durham or Winston-Salem, NC:
  1. Travel West on I-40 to the exit for NC-52
  2. Take NC-52 West, near Winston-Salem.
  3. Take I-74 East near Mount Airy
  4. Continue on to I-81 North junction near Wytheville
  5. Take the North exit.
Charlotte, NC area or other points farther South:
  1. Travel North on I-77
  2. The junction for I-81 is near Wytheville
  3. Take the North exit
From I-81 to the Red Lion Inn
  1. Take Exit 118B from I-81 (Route 460 Bypass: Christiansburg, Blacksburg) heading West.
  2. The US-460 Bypass will start as a stretch of open road which dips steeply downhill and then climbs back uphill.
  3. At the top of the rise, you will continue straight, entering the new US-460 Bypass.  ** This is different than last year! **  The new bypass allows you to pass Christiansburg non-stop on your way to Blacksburg.
  4. Continue straight onto US-460 to Blacksburg, you will notice a large merge area on your right, pass carefully.
  5. Continue on until you pass the first stoplight, which is Rt. 314 (Virginia Tech campus) The sign for the next set of exits, which you want, says Prices Fork Rd at the top. Underneath, The sign says Downtown on the left and Prices Fork Road on the right. You want the second exit, the one for which you have to go under the bridge.
  6. Take the Prices Fork Road exit, which is the second one, under the bridge, turning to the Right.
  7. You don't have much room, so get into the left lane as soon as you can.
  8. Turn left at the stoplight once you cross the bridge, on to Plantation Road. At this intersection, there is a Carillion Health Center on the left and a Texaco station on the right.
  9. Once you turn left, bear left as soon as possible, and you are in the parking lot of the Red Lion Inn.
From West Virginia and Points Northwest

Travelers from West Virginia or points farther Northwest will approach the area via US-460. From the Charleston area or Ohio, take I-77 South to US-460 East near Princeton. From the Bluefield area, travel East on US-460. You are heading East on US-460.
  1. Continue until you come to an exit for Price's Fork Road at an overpass.
  2. Take the exit, and at the end of the off-ramp, turn right. Get into the left turn lane immediately.
  3. Turn left at the traffic light, onto Plantation Road. At this intersection, there is a Carillion Health Center on the left and a Texaco station on the right.
  4. Once you turn left, bear left, and you will be in the parking lot of the Red Lion Inn.
