Latest News:
20 March 2010: We continue to somehow fit more guests into the schedule; if you haven't checked it today, you're behind the curve!
17 March 2010: More guests! More bios! More schedule! Less sleep!
9 March 2010: Guest info Please see the Guests page for an initial list of confirmed guests. Additional bios will be going up soon.
24 February 2010: Hotel info We have a signed hotel contract and room block at the new Hilton Garden Inn Blacksburg, only 1.3 miles from the main events on campus. Please see the hotels page for reservation info and directions.
Various other updates are being made to the website; check out the info available through the sidebar on the left and watch for more details in the next few days.
17 February 2010: Further details I had hoped to have finalized hotel info by now; we've finished negotiation, but contract still needs to be signed. Watch for info in the next few days. I hope that the new facility will be much easier to get to and from, and a nicer environment.
Our current plans are setup on campus Friday evening, a social at the hotel Friday night, a full slate of programming on campus during the day Saturday, and evening programming at the hotel Saturday night. Sunday morning programming is still being debated, but if present will be simple; it has always been the least well attended time slots, with people sleeping in, needing to check out, and hit the road. Given our limited manpower and budget it seems to be the least problematic way to cut back. Of course, we'll still need volunteers on Sunday to finish tearing things down, but we're trying to organize things this year so as to reduce the effort required significantly.
12 February 2010: Facilities confirmed It's been a difficult winter for the central East coast, and Blacksburg is no exception. Offices have been closed, meetings cancelled, etc. Additionally, our usual on-campus location was usurped by a higher-level university function, which required some quick rearrangement. The good news is that we finally have confirmation of our on-campus location; T27 will primarily be in Pamplin Hall, with some functions in the connected Robeson Hall. We hope to have final details on the off-campus location for the evening programming and hotel room block in the very near future.
16 December 2009: A Note from the Chair Technicon is in a fragile state right now. The economy is still not in good condition, which affects us in quite a few ways; and we have lost a lot of experienced staff (graduation, family, health problems, etc.). VTSFFC intends to hold a fun and educational event on the weekend of March 20, 2010 on the Virginia Tech campus in Blacksburg, VA; but it will almost certainly have to be downscaled somewhat. Watch this space for more information, and please remember that Technicon has always been a volunteer-run event; if there's an activity that you particularly want, are you willing to help make it happen?
10 December 2009: Postcard is in the mail The "save the date" postcard has been printed and inserted into the mailstream. Expect it in a few days, depending on holiday mail delays.
6 December 2009: Quick Update Pardon our dust as we update. "Save the date" postcard has been designed and is in process.
(Looking for something from the Technicon 26 Website?)
